NON-FICTION by TRIPP BERRY

There's no such thing as stagnation. You're either getting ahead or falling behind.

Tripp originally became an engineer for many reasons, and at the top of the list is a desire to be helpful. Engineers take science and apply it to helping people. It's the way we're wired. These non-fiction books are geared to help you with something specific. Hopefully there's a lot less boring blah, blah, blah, and a whole more getting to the point. Plus some humor and stories, because we need to have fun, too.

Be Growth Oriented

Tripp owned and ran his business, Main-Land Development Consultants, for nearly fifteen years. During that time, he grew it by about 500% before he sold it to the employees. He's growth oriented and loves to see people flourish with coaching, mentoring, and leadership of his team. What more can he do? Write books to help you grow, too.

If Tripp could go back in time to see young Tripp after college and could give him just one piece of advice, what would it be? Read non-fiction. He is convinced that one non-fiction book a month for ten years in a field of study results in a bachelor's degree of skill. Make it two books a month and do it in five years. Get the books from the library and do it for free. A book a month. That's fifteen minutes a day.

Some Tips on being a Life Long Learner

Improve Your Life

There's only three ways to improve. Ready? Here they are:

  1. Learn something new.

  2. Get a mentor or a coach.

  3. Hang around with people who are the way you want to be.

Learn Something New

Tripp has been reading non-fiction for decades at a pace of one to two books a month. You can, too. But what should you read? Answer that by asking yourself, "What do I need to know?"

  • Are you bucking for a promotion? Read leadership books.

  • Trying to break into a new field? Read books on that subject. Tripp launched into a writing career by reading dozens (and counting) of books on writing, editing, and publishing.

  • Never seem to have a handle on your money? Read books about personal finance.

  • Is your walk with the Lord not great? There're tons of trustworthy books about deepening your relationship with God.

You get the idea.

Still not sure? Here's a tip: read something you're interested in to start. Do you like history? Oh boy, there's tons of books for that. Got a penchant for all things political? Try a biography or anything by a politician at your end of spectrum. Or, pick a book recommended by Tripp himself by seeing Bob's Booklist

Who's Bob?

Bob is Tripp's name in real life. Because he's better known as Bob in the business realm, he wrote those books under that name.
