She who must be obeyed sat down with me the other night to watch the live action remake of How to Train Your Dragon by Disney.
We watched the animated version with it first came out. Might have even taken the boys to the theater to watch it on the big screen. Can't remember. Anyway, once we had the DVD at home, it played sometimes for hours on end for the kids on a rainy day.
This year, the live action remake came out. I was hesitant.

Hesitant no longer. We watched it and I LOVED it. I laughed. I gasped. I marveled at the graphics and, get this, the acting. I don't know who cast that movie, but well done. Seriously. With Hiccup, you could have only done better by building a time machine and going back to find 14yo John Krasinski. The others were great, too. Frankly, I haven't seen much from Gerard Butler to write home about for ten years, but this? He was born to play Hiccup's overbearing and hyper-focused father.
The story, for those who don't know, follows the social outcast Hiccup, his antagonistic friends, and his whole village who battle dragons for survival. But Hiccup wants to do things differently. In the opening moments, he snags himself a dragon, and over the course of the story, figures out they're not quite what everyone thinks. Good thing he aims to do things differently.

Will Hiccup convince the people that different might just be better? Will he save not just his village but his whole world? Or will it all burn in dragon fire?

So, don't hesitate. This one is an awesome remake and great fun for the whole family.
