MAINE OATMEAL

I love me some oatmeal for breakfast. Always have, just like my father and grandfather before me. I ate quite a bit of instant oatmeal because it took like two minutes and I was lazy.
But now that I'm a bit older and perhaps a touch wiser, I'd rather spend ten minutes and get something much better for that most important meal of the day. Check it out.
A professional food photographer I am not.
This is so easy to make. Here's how:
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cup tap water
1/3 cup Quaker Steel Cut Oats.
A pinch of Kosher Salt.
A handful of Walnut Halves.
Real Maple Syrup to taste. Or try:
Bananas, strawberries, or whatever fruit makes your socks go up and down.
A fried egg and shredded cheese.
Put the water in a small saucepan, add the salt. Bring to a boil on high heat.
Lower the heat to the lowest setting to simmer.
Add oats. Stir immediately. If you stir it right off, it won't clump.
When the water comes back to a boil on low heat, stir occasionally.
As the oats thicken, stir continuously until it reaches desired consistency.
Dump oats into a bowl. Add walnuts and maple syrup.
This only takes about 10 minutes start to finish. I can make it while my pressed coffee is steeping, and it's SO much better than instant. Seriously.
Fair warning. If you're not used to oats, they will initially bring significant gas. I'm talking like middle-schooler giggling, wife offending, oh wow my pants fit better passing of gas. Eat it a couple times, though, and that goes away. I eat it two or three times a week without negative side effects. Good for fiber, sits with you until lunch, and simply delicious.
One more thing. Put any dish and utensil the oatmeal touches in the sink and let them soak for easy cleaning. Never had a problem getting the oats off that way.
Steel cut oats. Not just for grandpas.
